Sunway Malls & Theme Parks chief executive officer HC Chan sharing about the malls' efforts and how they work together with stakeholders and customers to achieve their sustainable goals during the launch.
KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 14): In conjunction with the Global Day of Action for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on Sept 25, Sunway Malls is running the "Together for Good" campaign from Sept 10 to Oct 2 this year. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of upholding six sustainability initiatives — green leasing, sustainable operations, green procurement, waste management, community building and urban farming.
Sunway Malls & Theme Parks chief executive officer HC Chan said in a press release: "Sustainability is not only the responsibility of one but all. By making the right choices in our daily lives, we are making the right decision for a sustainable future. We envision a future for Sunway Malls that is not only green but also a model of smart sustainable development, so that the world is a better place for future generations."
Throughout the campaign, shoppers can participate in eco-living focused workshops and engage in DIY activities by making their own daily necessities with participating mall tenants.
Participating malls are Sunway Pyramid in Sunway City, Selangor; Sunway Putra Mall and Sunway Velocity Mall in Kuala Lumpur; Sunway Carnival Mall in Penang; and Sunway Big Box Retail Park in Sunway City Iskandar Puteri, Johor.
Sunway Malls' initiatives include the launch of The Farm at Sunway Pyramid, a non-commercial space where shoppers can learn about urban farming. There will also be an upcoming initiative to help the underprivileged have better reading accessibility through the Sunway READ Library Project.
According to the statement, Sunway Malls is gearing to be among Malaysia's largest mall owner-operators as existing projects and those in the pipeline now stand at 7.7 million square feet of net lettable area (NLA) and that figure is expected to be increased to 10.2 million square feet of NLA in the near future.
