KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 4): Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu lost the support of the majority of the State Legislative Assembly after a motion of confidence failed to garner enough votes.

The State Legislative Assembly sought to bring forward the vote of confidence this morning after emergency motions were filed by Salbiah Mohamed (Barisan Nasional-Temenggor) and Howard Lee (Pakatan Harapan-Pasir Pinji). The latest motion was submitted by Umno state assemblyman for Pengkalan Baru Datuk Abdul Manaf Hashim.

Out of the 59 assemblypersons, 10 voted for the motion, 48 voted against, while one abstained, said Perak Speaker Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Kalid during the proceedings live-streamed earlier.

Ahmad Faizal, who represents Chenderiang and is the deputy president of Bersatu, said he is now committed to ensuring a smooth transition to the new state government.

The state budget, originally scheduled to be tabled by Ahmad Faizal today, has now been postponed to Wednesday following the latest developments.

Ahmad Faizal will seek an audience before Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah later today to convey what happened at the state legislature.
