KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 17): Malaysia today logged 17,577 new Covid-19 cases, marking the second straight day of decline, according to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Among new infections, 17,333 cases or 98.6% had no symptoms (Category 1 patients) or only mild symptoms (Category 2), he said in a statement.

The remaining 244 cases or 1.4% were in Category 3 (patients with pneumonia), Category 4 (patients with pneumonia requiring oxygen therapy) and Category 5 (critical patients requiring assisted ventilation).

Sarawak led the country with the highest infections at 3,480, followed by Selangor (2,646), Johor (2,334) and Perak (1,596).

There are now 891 Covid-19 patients being treated in intensive care units, including 410 who need ventilators to breathe.

Meanwhile, daily recoveries stood at 22,970 today, the 17th straight day they exceeded daily infections.

So far, cumulative Covid-19 cases increased further to 2.07 million, versus 1.82 million total recoveries.

The Health Ministry detected 19 more clusters comprising 11 workplace clusters, six community clusters and two high-risk group clusters. To date, 5,247 clusters have been detected nationwide including 3,860 that have been declared ended.
