KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 15): Indra, one of the leaders in ticketing systems, has won a €33.2 million (RM154.41 million) contract to implement its ticketing technology on the Sungai-Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line or MRT 2, the second subway line in the Klang Valley.

Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) awarded the contract to Indra, in a consortium with a local company Rasma Corporation. Indra and Rasma presented the best bid in technical, commercial and economic terms, out of five other international consortia.

In the statement today, Indra said it will handle the engineering, design, development, testing and commissioning of all ticketing technology (AFC-Automated Fare Collection) for MRT 2, also known as the SSP Line.

This contract includes systems and machines for manual and automatic ticket sales, access control systems, software, the central ticketing system, economic management systems and station control equipment.

“The new solution integrates contactless technology. Tickets will be electronic cards for [those] who travel frequently, and tokens (common in Asia) for one-way tickets. Both systems will allow users to validate their cards by simply passing them over the scanner, leading to faster and more convenient access,” the statement said.

It added that the contract reinforces Indra's position in Malaysia, whereby it is developing major transportation projects.

Indra has already deployed its ticketing and access control technology in the monorail, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT-Sunway) and light rail lines in Kuala Lumpur.

It is also developing an integrated control centre for the monorail and the light rail lines of Ampang and Kelana Jaya, that is expected to encompass all transport lines operated by Prasarana Malaysia Bhd.

Prasarana is the asset owner and operator of the country’s two LRT networks and the KL Monorail; in addition to the bus services of RapidKL, RapidPenang and RapidKuantan.

Aside from these projects, Indra has deployed a simulator of transport helicopter EC 225 at the Eurocopter pilot training centre in Malaysia.

Indra is one of the main global consulting and technology companies, as well as the technology partner for core business operations throughout the world, which offers proprietary solutions and services that offer a high value-added technology.
