KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 14): Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK) has appointed Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang as its new chairman effective September 2016.
He will replace Datuk Ibrahim Mahaludin Puteh, who retired three months ago after serving as the company’s chairman since 2009.
Abu Zahar was the president of the Dewan Negara and a Member of Parliament for Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan. He is also a former State Assembly member (ADUN) for Kuala Pilah, where he was a State Exco member.
Beginning his career with the Royal Malaysia Police in 1965, he was appointed as Acting Deputy Superintendent (DSP) in 1979 before resigning to practice law as an Advocate and Solicitor and later admitted as a Barrister in 1977.
Apart from serving as the chairman of Lembaga Pertubuhan Peladang and the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (RISDA), he has also led several Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) during his tenure as President of Persatuan Bekas Polis Malaysia, Persatuan Peguam Muslim Malaysia and Majlis Bekas-bekas Wakil Rakyat (Mubarak).
He is currently the Chairman of Jawatankuasa Khas Mengenai Rasuah Malaysia (JKMR), Chairman of South East Parliamentarians Against Corruption (Seapac) and a board member of the Global Organisation of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (Gopac).
