KUALA LUMPUR (May 13): The Ormond Group will be raising funds for four charities that have been steadfastly working to help Malaysia’s most vulnerable and worst affected communities during the Covid-19 outbreak through its #DemiNegara (For The Nation) package.

In a statement today, its group chief executive officer Gareth Lim said this new initiative is focused on helping four very vulnerable communities, namely migrant workers, refugees, indigenous groups and the urban poor.

"We realise that the road to recovery is harder for some — many of whom have left their homes to help build ours. They are part of our community. We are all in this together," he said.

According to the hospitality group, 15% of the sales of this package will be channelled towards four entities helping these communities — Tenaganita, Human Aid Selangor, Kechara Soup Kitchen and Global Peace Malaysia.

"Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, they have been providing food and supporting refugee families and migrant workers who have lost their daily wage jobs and are unable to feed themselves and their families," it said.

The package will be available at participating Tune Hotels in Malaysia, the Chow Kit — An Ormond Hotel, and MoMo’s Kuala Lumpur.

According to the group, the #DemiNegara package is part of a “Sayang-Sayang Malaysia” (Love Malaysia) campaign with discounts for Malaysians to travel and discover Malaysia once Movement Control Order (MCO) restrictions for travel ease, and will be available for bookings until Dec 31.

"Global travel and hospitality have been hard hit and the road to recovery will be long. However, we love that Malaysia still has many hidden local gems and places to discover.

"We hope that these discounts will enable all Malaysians to come together through travel, to get our country, our people and our communities back on their feet again," it added.

In addition, the group will also extend a 30% discount to all healthcare workers, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the army involved in the Covid-19 fight for a stay at any hotels within the group.
