KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 13): Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki had on Monday (Sept 12) met with Qatar attorney general (AG) Dr Issa bin Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi in Qatar where they discussed issues, including anti-corruption and anti-money laundering law enforcement, the Gulf Times reported.

The Gulf Times, which carried the news initially produced by the Qatar News Agency on Gulf Times' website and Facebook page, reported that Azam and his accompanying delegation is currently visiting Qatar.

"During the meeting, they (Azam and Issa) discussed issues of common interest and ways to enhance them in the field of anti-corruption and money laundering," Gulf Times reported.

According to the MACC website, the MACC has existing bilateral cooperation with Brunei's Anti-Corruption Bureau, Singapore's Corrupt Practice Investigation Bureau, Thailand's National Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam.

In Malaysia, the MACC said the MACC Act 2009 came into effect on Jan 1, 2009 and led to the official establishment of the MACC as an independent, transparent and professional body to effectively and efficiently manage the nation’s anti-corruption efforts.
