GEORGE TOWN: Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik has become the latest opposition lawmaker to be charged under the Sedition Act over an article he wrote, news portal Malaysiakini reported yesterday.
Ng was told to present himself at the Sessions Court in George Town, Penang today.
The message from an ASP S Shankar informed the DAP politician that he would be charged with sedition and the warrant was due to be served yesterday, Malaysiakini quoted Ng as saying.
Ng had written an article on the imprisonment of former opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Kwong Wah Yit Poh Chinese-language daily in February.
Ng’s office later confirmed that he would be charged today while the notice was due to be served to him last night.
A police report was lodged against Ng by Penang MCA Youth deputy chief Ang Chor Keong on Feb 16, five days after the offending article titled “Let the trumpet of reformasi sound” was published. — The Malaysian Insider
