KUALA LUMPUR (March 10): The High Court will deliver its verdict on June 15 in the dispute between Tan Sri Dr Jamaludin Jarjis’s mother and his two children over the late Minister’s wealth.
Justice Datuk Mohd Firuz Jaffril fixed the date today after hearing submissions from lawyers representing both sides.
Justice Firuz said the written judgment would be issued on the same day.
In the suit against her grandchildren Nur Anis Jamaludin and Ikhwan Hafiz Jamaludin, 85-year-old Aminah Abdullah is seeking a court declaration that she is Jamaludin’s lawful mother, and hence a beneficiary of his estate.
She claims she has an interest in the shares of Rantai Wawasan Sdn Bhd, Alpine Motion Sdn Bhd and Ivory Insights Sdn Bhd, which were given to Nur Anis and Ikhwan Hafiz.
The shares of Rantai Wawasan, Alpine Motion and Ivory Insights have a combined value of RM1.35 billion.
Aminah is claiming one-sixth of the value of these shares, based on the Islamic faraid principle.
It was reported that the three million shares in Rantai Wawasan are valued at RM1.044 billion, while the six million shares in Alpine Motion are worth RM233 million.
The court today heard submissions from lawyers Pawancheek Merican and Kamar Ainiah Kamaruzaman (representing Aminah) and S Suhendran and Frank Wong (for Nur Anis and Ikhwan Hafiz).
Aminah has also filed a faraid application at the Syariah Court.
Jamaludin, who was formerly the Member of Parliament for Rompin, had served as the second Finance Minister, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, and Malaysia’s ambassador to the United States.
Known to be a close confidante of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, he was killed in a helicopter crash along with Najib's principal private secretary Datuk Azlin Alias in April 2015.
