KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 21): The Ministry of Health (MOH) has detected eight new COVID-19 clusters with 106 infections in total.

The new clusters of infections identified are:

  • Basung cluster, 19 cases (Kudat, Sabah)
  • Inai cluster, eight cases (Kudat, Sabah)
  • Tempayan cluster, 19 cases (involving health districts such as Kota Kinabalu and Penampang in Sabah)
  • Long cluster, 18 cases (Hulu Langat in Selangor and Titiwangsa, Lembah Pantai and Kepong in Kuala Lumpur)
  • Cahaya cluster, 18 cases (Petaling Jaya in Selangor and Tampin in Negeri Sembilan)
  • Bah Kota cluster, 10 cases (Sepang in Selangor and Seremban in Negeri Sembilan has 10 cases
  • Melati cluster, nine cases (Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur and Klang in Selangor)
  • Bina Labuan cluster, five cases (Labuan)

The number of new COVID-19 cases dropped to 732 today, the first time the daily figure dipped below the 800-mark after four consecutive days above that level.

However, the number of confirmed active cases, which carry high transmission risks, continued to climb to a fresh high of 7,827 as of noon today, compared with 7,681 yesterday, according to the MoH.

Among the 732 new infections reported, 535 were in Sabah, which has been the hotbed for the deadly virus after the State election on Sept 26. This has pushed the total infections in the State to nearly 10,000 with 9,290 confirmed cases.

Selangor, one of the most populated States, has the second highest number of new infections with 116 reported, lifting the State’s tally to 3,605, followed by Kuala Lumpur 26 cases.

In other States, Penang has 12 cases, Negeri Sembilan (nine), Labuan (nine), Kedah (seven), Perak (seven), Putrajaya (six), Melaka (three), Kelantan (one), and Pahang (one).
